Nerd Alert - Handheld Tetris

Tetris

So waaaayyyyy back when (2003 - holy crap, that was a decade ago!), I bought this little handheld Tetris to take with me on a roadtrip to Las Vegas. It served its purpose beautifully, keeping me busy on that desolate stretch of road between LA and Vegas, but I had no idea how integral to my life it was to become.I know that statement seems totally ridiculous, believe me, I know.

But here's the thing: I need to keep my hands busy. I can't just sit down and watch a show or movie, I need to be "multitasking". I have to be playing on the laptop, knitting, painting... playing Tetris. Weirdo? Product of a fast moving multitasking culture? Who knows.

Anyway, I had this glorious object of entertainment ("toy" seems so frivolous) for years -- years! I kept it in my purse when I left the house and within reach when at home. We were buddies, pals, friends... and then I had a kid.

I don't think my old friend even made it through the first year of my son's life before quietly disappearing into some black-hole. I mourned the loss deeply, but I plowed on with my life. I tried to replace him with other handhelds, but it was never the same -- they never fit right in my hands. So I gave up.

But last week, while watching reruns of Doctor Who with my guys, I decided on a whim to head on over to eBay (a place I almost never ever use) to see if they might have a clone of my dear departed friend -- and success!!

For just under $11, I have my friend back. Totally worth it. Plus, the black ink on the buttons hasn't been worn off from excessive play (yet). The move right button is a bit sticky, but I'm hoping that will ease up with more play. We shall see.

Tetris

And yes, I really did devote an entire post to Tetris -- that's how stoked (and nerdy) I am.
