If you're anything like me, than you fit into the two following categories:
1. You're a kick-ass feminist -- or possibly a shy one who is just now getting comfortable shouting it from the rooftops
2. You're determined to read more books this year
If those two statements are true, and I have to assume that they are since you've found yourself reading my blog, than I think you will be quite happy to learn that the lovely Jennifer from Grits and Moxie and I have been floating around the idea of an online feminist book club. So far, the idea is to choose one book a month that discusses feminist issues or features strong female protagonists. Really, that's as far as the planning has gone.
Sound like something you would be interested it? Keep your ear to the ground for details in the (hopefully near) future. You'll be the first to know when we've sorted it all out!

This is an awesome idea! I've been struggling through Caitlin Moran's How to Be a Woman. I don't think I'm going to finish it. I would love to be in the loop about good feminist books! :)

Are you not enjoying it? I loved it, but find myself struggling through "Moranthology".
DeleteWe should discuss! I'm doing a really short review on it for my next "Feminist Friday" post, but basically I feel like she's not making any real arguements: she's just telling anecdotes about her life, and making very shallow feminist statements. She's also making some sweeping generalizations about women. She's definitely funny though.... :)
DeleteAhh yes, I suppose I can see that. It sometimes reads like a memoir, albeit that of someone with strong feminist convictions. It definitely isn't written as a serious feminist guidebook, but I think just about anything that gets the word "feminist" out in the public eye, in a positive light, is a good thing. We need to get people talking and then maybe we can get a few to dig deeper :)
DeleteShe is funny though... even if I have trouble deciphering some of her UK slang ha
I love this! I was actually thinking about doing something similar but on a different subject! I'm interested in doing this club for sure, I'l keep my eyes open for more info!
ReplyDeleteYES! PLEASE! I've been wanting to read more feminist books and this would be so perfect.
ReplyDeleteYES! I need a book club and I also need the impetus to read more feminist works that have been on my "Eh, maybe..." list for a while.
ReplyDeleteYes! I love this idea and I would be an enthusiastic member of such a book club. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I'm very interested in participating.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to hear (err... read) that so many lovely folks are interested. Yay!
